As we age, there comes a time when Botox® and filler injections may not completely provide the desired result. At this point, many consider something a bit different for those unwanted fine lines and wrinkles; a chemical peel. This one-time treatment of the upper lip, around the mouth, or the full face could be the answer you have been looking for.
A chemical peel, or “chemosurgery,” is a non-invasive technique that can improve the appearance of wrinkled, blemished, unevenly-pigmented, or sun-damaged skin. During this treatment, a chemical solution is applied to the top layers of the skin which makes it “blister” and eventually peel off. The new skin is smoother and less wrinkled than the skin that was there before…a new and better version of your skin.
Chemical peels can also be done on the neck and hands.
The most popular chemical peel for addressing fine or coarse facial wrinkles, blotchy skin, and other forms of sun damage, is the phenol peel. A phenol peel “bleaches” the skin and thus is not recommended for patients who have a more olive or darker skin tone. Phenol is widely used for the full face, but can also be used on a limited basis on other areas in patients with fair and unfreckled skin.
A chemical peel is performed in the comfort of the office setting. Anesthesia is not required, however, light sedation may be used before and during the procedure to help patients remain relaxed and comfortable.
